One truth, many paths
Reiki is a modality that cannot yet be fully explained. To gain an
understanding, Reiki needs to be experienced. Messages from the body
can be easily overlooked when the brain is busy analyzing. As a society,
we do not value sensation as a primary mode of perception. Yet,
experience is sensation, and our bodily experiences cannot be denied.
The effects of a Reiki session is often a palpable physical sensation
and/or associated vision. It may result in an attitude shift, a creative
insight, or provide the solution to a vexing problem. The proof of whether
a therapeutic procedure is effective rests not on the gathering of data
alone but on the client's actual experience.
All conditions of imbalance are rooted in the human energy field, and it is
the underlying energetic patterns that must be resolved in order to
create conditions for wellness. This is the possibility offered by Reiki.
The Reiki practitioner conducts vital energy from the universal energy
field into the human energy field, where the energy is transmuted into a
form that is usable at the cellular level.
Reiki is Japanese for:

History of Reiki
Reiki, a Japanese word representing Universal Life Energy. It is the energy which is all around us. Reiki, when activated and
applied for the purposes of healing, addresses body, mind and spirit. It accelerates the body's ability to heal physical ailments
and opens the mind and spirit to the causes of disease and pain, the necessity for taking responsibility for one's life and the
joys of balanced wellness.
The Usui system of healing was born out of the experience and dedication of Dr. Mikao Usui, a
Japanese Christian educator who, in the 1800's responded to a challenge from his university
students by undertaking an extensive study of the healing phenomena of history's greatest spiritual
leaders. Through travel, study, research and meditation, he evolved a healing system based on
ancient Buddhist teachings written in Sanskrit. He spent the rest of his life practising and teaching
this method of healing, which involved attunement to the energy and the laying on of hands.
Reiki is not a religion or affiliated with any religion. This life force energy is the source of life itself
and far older in concept and fact than any religious philosophy. "Reiki recipients do not have to
believe in the efficacy of Reiki, as this is not a test of their faith. The inherent wisdom of Reiki will
not permit it to be misused."
The Practice of Reiki
In practice, Reiki's effect is holistic. It influences the physical, the mental, the emotional and the spiritual aspects of the
individual. In practice, Reiki's effect is holistic. It influences the physical, the mental, the emotional and the spiritual aspects of the
Reiki strives to bring these different aspects of the individual into a state of balance. The practitioner is a conduit for the energy.
Reiki is never forced into the body, but rather it is drawn in by the recipient. Reiki has been used to treat everything from minor
ailments and accidents to chronic disease. Because Reiki is a natural healing method it is also very effective on birds and animals.
The essence of Reiki is alive today as it was hundreds of years ago. It continues to grow through the teachers and students of Reiki
and helps fill, in individuals and in society, the need to be in balance and harmony with the Universal Life Force. Reiki is practised all
over the world.
